Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (1 ha 86 a 75 ca)

Acquired in 1919 by my grandfather Gaston Grivot. Average vine age 40 years. Low yields, top quality. Described in 1855 by Jullien in Topographie de tous les vignobles connus "as ressembling Chambertin and Richebourg : with a fine colour, lots of liveliness and richness, finesse, perfect flavours and in particular a suave bouquet."

The famous Dr Morelot said that "Clos de Vougeot, Romanée, Chambertin and some others are the best wines in the Côte d'Or and maybe the best in France".

Our Clos de Vougeot is a full, powerful wine which is sometimes a little rough. It is robust when young and needs to be given time to mature and develop finesse and elegance. Usually needs 10 years to open. When it is mature it is a generous, velvety wine, full of truffles and scents of violets.
